Ultimate Under Sink Water Filter Details and Benefits: A 5.0 micron coconut shell solid carbon block cartridge is utilized as the Stage 1 filter in our Twin Ultimate Water Filters. Combining the highly adsorptive efficiency of a Solid Carbon block with several layers of sediment pre-filtration (5 microns) to effectively reduce chlorine tastes and odors, VOC's, sediment, particulate matter and odors.
It also increases the overall life and effectiveness of the Stage 2 - 0.5 micron Doulton UltraCarb water filter.
The Doulton Ultracarb is a four stage cartridge combining the highly
efficient filtration properties of ceramic with the enhanced water
treatment properties of activated carbon and the heavy metal reduction
capabilities of ion exchange media.
First Stage The first stage consists of
Doulton Ultracarb ceramic which provides genuine sub micron filtration.
The cartridge reduces fine particulate matter, bacteria, cysts and
turbidity.
Second stage The incorporation of silver locked within the ceramic structure gives enhanced bacteriostatic and self sterilizing properties.
Third Stage An inner core of activated carbon block removes chlorine, taste, odor and organic compounds.

Design Features: Our Solid Carbon Block filters flow in the radial (outside-to-inside) direction, providing increased dirt capacity and low pressure drop. Unlike granular activated carbon (GAC) water filters, solid carbon block cartridges will not channel or bypass, due to the extreme uniformity of their extruded activated carbon core. Service life of the water filter cartridge is greatly extended by two layers of pre-filtration media consisting of a 15 micron polypropylene outer pre-filtration layer followed by a 5 micron polypropylene melt-blown inner layer. The Doulton UltraCarb filter life can be extended with minor periodic cleaning of the exterior ceramic layer of the Doulton filter element using a kitchen scrub pad, renewing the surface due to refresh its ultrafine filtration characteristics.
