More Information Stage 1: An inexpensive 5 micron string-wound filter captures large particulates and prevents the more expensive 2nd and 3rd stage filters from early clogging. Stage 2: The filter cartridge in the 2nd stage of the WU005 triple systems utilizes KDF filtration media, GAC (granular activated carbon) and 3 stages of polypropylene sediment filtration. KDF Process Media are high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys that treat water through a process based upon the principle of redox (Oxidation-Reduction). Originally, KDF was shorthand for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion.
We can explain redox like this: KDF Fluid Treatment’s unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble zinc chloride, which is then washed harmlessly through the water supply. Stage 3: The filter cartridge in the 3rd stage of the WU005 is a high capacity 1.0 micron carbon block filter, the Matrikx Pb-1 Contaminant Reduction: This solid carbon block filter provides 0.5 micron nominal filtration (1 micron absolute). A dense pre-filtration wrap combined with a high capacity extruded activated carbon block serves to provide excellent filtration characteristics with a high affinity for adsorption of Chlorine, Lead, Cysts, VOC's tastes, odors, dirt, rust and sediment. -
Design Features: This filters flows in the radial (outside-to-inside) direction, providing increased dirt capacity, low pressure drop and high chemical adsorption capacity. Unlike granular activated carbon (GAC) filters, our 1 micron Carbon Block cartridges will not channel or bypass, due to the extreme uniformity of their extruded activated carbon core. Service life of the the filter is greatly extended by pre-filtration media consisting of spunbonded outer pre-filtration layer.
